French Navy Starts Testing L22 Next Gen Data Link Aboard FREMM Normandie

The French Navy (Marine Nationale) started tests of the Link 22 (L22) secure digital radio data link. The tests were recently conducted in the North Atlantic by FREMM Frigate "Normandie" with the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Netherlands Navy.

Normandie‘s crew conducted these tests during the frigate’s long cruise, a long duration deployment to test all of the ship’ systems ahead of its formal admission into active duty.

L22 is a NATO secure digital radio link in the HF and UHF bands that provides Beyond Line-Of-Sight (BLOS) communications. It interconnects air, surface, subsurface, and ground-based tactical data systems, and it is used for the exchange of tactical data among military units. READ MORE...
