For the past five years, Steve Umbaugh has supported the Air Force Research Laboratory Sensor Applications and Demonstrations Division (AFRL/SNZ), WPAFB, OH as a DoD Research Contractor. A Defense Research Associates Inc employee (Beavercreek, OH), Steve has over 25 years in Joint/Combined, Service-specific, and Industry EW/IO systems research, development, and operations, and over 8 years experience developing unmanned system platforms, sensors, and associated simulation systems (MUSE/AFSERS).

In 2000, Steve retired from the USAF as a Lieutenant Colonel. Steve has been the Director of Test and Demonstration, Global Hawk and DarkStar UAVs for DARPA and the USAF (1997-2000); Chief, Bombers and Special Mission Aircraft, HQ AFMC/DR (1995-1997); Director of EW/Deputy C2W for UNC/CFC/USFK/EUSA, Seoul Korea (1994-1995); Operations and Test Group Manager, EF-111A System Improvement Program, and later, Chief, Special Support Division, Electronic Combat SPO, at WPAFB, OH (1990-1993).

From 1981-1990 Steve was trained and operationally flew the F-111A as a Weapon Systems Operator, and both the EF-111A and the EA-6B as an Instructor Electronic Warfare/Electronic Countermeasures Officer. Steve has logged more than 1500 tactical aircraft hours and 150 aircraft carrier landings.
